                      Main Street Energy Efficiency Initiative

                      Picture
STI, in partnership with the Governors Energy Office, is implementing the Main Street Energy Efficiency Initiative in downtown Idaho Springs.  This initiative provides up to a $1000 in rebates for energy audits, lighting upgrades, and re-commissioning studies.

For example, Idaho Springs Lumber had a free lighting audit through XCEL Energy's Lighting Program.  Based on recommendations from the audit, they replaced all of their T-12 light-bulbs with T-8 light bulbs.  The full cost of the job was $3000, however, after taking advantage of XCEL Energy's Lighting Program and the extra rebates available through the Main Street Energy Efficiency Initiative, that $3000 job only cost about $600.  They're expecting the savings in electric costs to pay that back inside of a year, and then they'll enjoy lowered utility bills.  A surprise benefit is that many customers have commented that they like the new lighting because it's brighter and better!

Applications for this program are open to Idaho Springs businesses through the month of August only.
